SilkFred is an online platform for independent fashion brands, offering a sought-after destination for consumers looking for unique clothing.
The idea was conceived over lunch between co-founders Emma Watkinson (chief executive) and Stephen Jackson in 2011, with the site launching soon-after in 2012. The pair had observed the difficulties faced by independent brands taking their products to market and, with co-founder Kate Jackson, set about creating a platform for the brands to reach a larger customer audience.
In just four years SilkFred has developed a loyal customer base for the 500+ brands it partners with through its social-first marketing strategy, with over 800k followers across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
We backed SilkFred in 2017 with a £1.5m growth capital investment to support the business as it builds out its head office functions, in particular its tech development team. Since our investment staff numbers have nearly doubled from 30 to 57 (Jan 2018).
