Earlier in the day Steve Cordiner spoke on the importance of investing in scale-ups at the UKBAA Global Summit.
We speak to him about the importance of angel investing to the future of businesses in the UK:
“What struck me about both the UKBAA summit and the awards in the evening was the quality of emerging growth businesses in the UK and the desire of all investors to support businesses in the difficult transition from seed to scale up.
"I met so many talented angel investors that provide capital and significant expertise to these very early businesses. What shone through was that there is more common ground between Angels and VCs in terms of how they think about making an investment than you might expect. The strong emphasis on quality of management, economics of business model, time commitment and importantly, a willingness and desire to provide patient capital in allowing these businesses to find their feet, were all very familiar ground from a Livingbridge Growth perspective.
"It is vital that angels and VCs continue to support the future businesses of the UK and they play a critical role in provision of capital and in working together to build great businesses. It was fantastic to see so much optimism and momentum at the Summit, and for entrepreneurs the outlook is positive –there is a significant amount of capital and a large number of smart investors who can help you shape an investor base at the crucial scaling stage of your journey.”
We were also delighted to see our investee company Symphony Ventures pick up the Team of the Year award, which was won last year by fellow Livingbridge investee Moteefe.
