“I love getting right into the heart of a business, breaking it down into a simple set of value drivers and finding out what makes it special.”
I focus on new investment opportunities, so spend a lot of time meeting businesses – ranging from those that have little knowledge of private equity through to those that have appointed advisers and already know that they want investment. My job is to understand what they need and demonstrate – using our huge range of real examples – that Livingbridge can support them to grow their business.
One of the most satisfying investments I have been involved with is inov-8. As a keen runner, I became aware of inov-8’s great running shoes back in 2007, just four years after founder Wayne Edy had launched the business. Even then it was easy to spot the potential for the brand and I first spoke to Wayne when his turnover was around £1m. His passion for the product and ambition for growth was clear to see in those early days. We stayed in touch and when Wayne decided to sell a stake in the business some years later we were well placed with our fantastic experience of consumer brands, retail channels, international growth, genuine passion for the product and track record of working with founder entrepreneurs. We were delighted to complete an investment with inov-8 in May 2012.
I graduated from Cambridge with a degree in Natural Sciences before training as an accountant at PwC. I then worked in the City for 8 years advising a range of companies from SMEs through to FTSE100s. This experience made me realise my real passion was in working with and supporting fast growing, entrepreneurial companies.
Outside work I spend time with my young family and enjoy cycling and, when I can, still run competitively.
