Livingbridge sells Williams Medical Supplies

Williams Medical Supplies (“WMS”), the UK’s leading supplier of medical supplies and services to Primary care and Secondary care markets, has been acquired by DCC Plc (“DCC”) in a deal worth £45m.

Founded in 1986 and based in Rhymney, South Wales, WMS is the market leading provider of medical supplies and services to the UK healthcare market, including 8,500 GP surgeries and Primary Care Organisations (PCOs).

The business also provides a broad range of added-value services including Health & Safety consultations, utilities supply and advice on infection control. Their popular medical equipment testing and calibration service is uniquely endorsed by all the major medical equipment manufacturers.

Livingbridge originally invested £10.5m in WMS in May 2007, in order to fund a management buyout of the business.  The sale to DCC, a FTSE 250 sales, marketing and distribution business with a leading position in medical device and pharma sales and distribution, has delivered a return of 2.5x for Livingbridge’s clients at an IRR of 15%.

Since investment Williams has successfully grown sales, customer numbers and profits, and developed its range of product and services to mirror the dynamic changes occurring in the UK healthcare market.  WMS is well positioned for further growth in primary and community care as the market continues to evolve.
